Genetic Engineering is the very recent branch of science and technology in which study of genetic properties is done very deep. Courses

  • Sc. / B.Tech– 3 /4 years bachelor degree in genetics.
  • Sc. / M.Tech – 2 years master degree in genetics.
  • Phil/Ph.D. 3/4 years of doctoral degree in genetics.

Qualification

For B.Sc./B.Tech minimum qualification is pass certificate of class 10+2 with science group. For M.Sc./M.Tech, B.Sc./B.Tech in Botany/ Zoology/ Bio- Chemistry/ B.Sc. (Ag.)/ B.V.Sc. / MBBS or genetics minimum qualification is required. For research (M.Phil/Ph.D.), M.Sc./M.Tech in genetics required.

Job Options

Demand of Genetic engineers is very high in medical, pharmaceutical, agriculture and other fields also. Genetic engineers can work with Research & Development (R&D) firms, biotechnology-based companies, health care firms, pharmaceutical companies, etc. After studying genetic engineering many candidates also work as a teacher in institutes.

Salaries

         Fresher can get a starting salary between Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 40,000 per month. Lecturers in colleges get a starting salary of Rs 35,000-Rs 70,000 per month. Senior engineers can earn anywhere in between Rs 50,000 and Rs 80,000 a month. Those at research levels can earn up to Rs1, 50, 000 or even more. In USA salary ranges between $30,000 to $130,000 per year.
